how do i replace the courtesy light switch on a 2002 vw golf?

Hi The light switch is encorperated in the door latch.

You need to first check the courtesy light to see if it is connected and has the bulb fitted/blown but doubt it. You have to remove the door lock barrel, open the door remove 5p sized grommet open the handle with 1 hand and unscrew the tx screw slightly until the lock barrell is loose dont remove the screw all the way, slowly let go of the handle and it will rest on the stop, lock barrel will be loose remove the barrel and flick out the bowden cable to the outer handle, then remove the door card Tx screws across the bottom and pozzi near small speaker,2 pozzi screws behind handle trim. Pop the trim off using a trim tool be careful clips break.
Reconnect window swith and remove black circle grommets to the regulator lower window to expose 10mm bolts/tx screws if later reg is fitted loosen the glass bolts and grab the glass with 2 hands and tape it to the frame. Then remove the 2x 8mm splined bolts from the latch disconnect the wiring loom from the regulator and then remove the ring of 10 mm bolts and prise the reg away from the door this will then expose the door latch it will need replacing. Re fit in reverse order.
