Drivers door will not open from the outside

If it is anything like my rear door on my 63 plate Galaxy it can be opened from the inside but not the outside, unless it is done as the first door opening but not after shutting it again then it will not re-open, the reason is the lock mech does not open Ford wanted £500 to fit new unit
