my fire keeps turning itself off?

Not really an answer but just to say I had this problem, followed the advice and now the gas fire is back to normal.

Yes.If you can get access to the pilot assbly follow the pipe down below the pilot head and you will see an airhole which draws in air.This hole gets blocked with dust over time hence causing the pilot to go the incorrect colour and size and it cuts out.Get a piece of rubber tube and blow thro the hole.Hopefully you should see dust come out of it and the pilot will be a much better colour.Hence to say getting it serviced is a good idea.
