Mend Mercedes-Benz 312D Sprinter Van Started Cold

what is causing excessive exhaust smoke on my mercedes 312d sprinter van?

my sprinter van has started to smoke from the exhaust when cold or hot the smolke is light grey but dose'nt smell of burnt oil can it be a problem with the diesel injectors and pump it seems to be using more diesel and a little more oil, there is no lose of power
but the engine seems to run a little lumpy as if it was choked
