Mend Memorex MM-8500 Open Top Left

Memorex MM-8500 is stuck on startup with the words "open" on top left ?

My Memorex DVD player MM 8500 does not play. The screen shows "open" in the top left corner. This prevents the devise from engaging into play mode. "Open" still shows when lid of unit is closed.

Did you get it fixed? I have a problem with mine too,
it keeps displaying No disc message.

I can seel you my unit for $25 including S&H, only the
unit with carring case and remote control, no battery
or charge.
