Mend Memorex Button Dvd Player

How can I get the standby button on my dvd player to go off?

When I try to turn off the standby button and open the door to my dvd player I can't make it happen. I have owned the player for about a year but used very little (maybe twice). Its a Memorex player

I have the same problem with my MDV2042 and have had this problem with Memorex in the past. Not sure how to fix it myself and hoping someone knows why they do this. I have in the past just replaced it since they are so cheap (around $30) but now that it has happened again I would like to know why. Anyone?
