i replaced my mums memorycraft 8000 backlight electrolumenescent panel with strands of fibreoptic fibres (taken from a cheap fibreoptic light). I stuck loads of individual fibres across a sheet of white card and used a couple of white LED's to shine light into the bundle of fibres. It was fiddly but not difficult. I used the DC supply that previously powered the inverter for the EL panel to run the LED's. For info, I'm not sure that you can just cut EL panel to size, it may need specialist manufacturing?? Anyways, the trick is to keep the whole fibre and card assembly as thin as poss to slide into the tiny gap where the EL panel was./ The hardest part was dismantling the machine and putting it all back together again !!
