kohler 12.5ohv turns over, but wont fire. ?

to answer your question yes: you should chech the spark plug to see if it is firing. remove the spark plug and place it next to the engine housing so you can see the gap in the bottom of the spark plug. turn the engine over a few times and look to see if there is any sparking at the bottom of the spark plug. if not you may have one of three problems. #1 the magnito ( coil is not making contact with the fly wheel. #2 the spark plug is defective. #3 the fly wheel needs to be cleaned. I would do all three. to find out if the magnito is malfunctioning you will need to remove the blower housing (the cover on top of the engine). remove the cover and look to see if the fly wheel is rusty. if so then they will have to clean both the fly wheel and the coil. yes indeed could be a couple of things as small engines are relatively simple all rhey need to run is air fuel and spark you have fuel , but no spark......... so try checking the flywheel keyway to do this you will need to take the top cover off the engine and remove the flywheel from the crankshaft , you will then see a keyway with what should be an aluminum key if it is sheared in half or missing replace it and u should be set to go if not have your coil tested
