Desktop background help?

When I right click on my desktop, then go to properties, there are tabs to set my desktop, settigns, themes, screen saver and appereance...I don't know where my DESKTOP tab went????
I wanted to change the picture on teh desktop to centered an teh tab is gone!!! How do I get it back? and why is it gone??
