what is wrong with my washer i have a hotpoint and i have a broken belt smell when i wash and a oily substance in my clothes

It sounds like a bearing is freezing up.I have never fixed one of the bearing, but call a service person and get free estement a estimate. if it is to much look on craigs list and look for a new to you free one.
