i found this eureka on the side of the road. it wasn't sucking at all and the rug-beater wasn't spinning as well. so i looked inside the tubes and managed to create a plumbing snake out of a coat hanger and unclogged it all (check the beginning and end of the attachment tube). then i too had problems taking off the top. i just got a flathead screwdriver and forced it off on the side where the foot ..button thing is. its hard at first but with a little force it pops off (sounds like its breaking but it didn't.. just snapped back on). the belt was busted apparently.
