Mend Craftsman 4000 Riding Mower Start

How can I get my craftsman riding mower to start?

My 2 year old Model 4000 riding mower will not start unless I crank it for 5 minutes. (literally) Or use starting fluid. Once started it runs fine, and restarts while warm.
It has a new plug, new fuel and air filters, all in an attempt to fix this problem. It is a 20 HP Tecumsah engine.

Check that the choke control is operating as intended. If separate to the throttle, chect that it isn't binding. If the choke is operated by moving the throttle all the way to (and past) the 'FAST' position, chances are the cable just needs adjusting.
