adjusting stitch lenght on older kenmore?

i have a older kenmore sewing machine atleast 25 years, I love it sews through anything. Problem I have is the stitch length wont adjust much, you basically get a basting stitch. Have taken apart cleaned oiled and dont see what could be wrong.
