This can be caused by the counterbalance weights coming loose. With the door open, remove the rubber seal around the door and you will find the weights mounted on the outside of the drum. If these are found to be loose tighten the two nuts using a spanner. These may come loose again so ideally apply some threadlock to the bolts.
