Mend Plays Black White

Infocus plays DVD in black and white?

I just installed an IN36 and the DVD plays in black and white and skips a lot. There is also a message that pops up and sys "searching for signal" sometimes.

sounds like the picture connection is faulty.

need to know the model of the DVD player ... the way it's connected (ie. what cables were used).

you have 3 types of connections on the back

-DVI-D (kinda looks like a computer monitor cable)
-S-video (a round DIN plug with 4 tiny pins in it)
-Composite Video (yellow RCA)

given this, it's possible to get a black and white picture if you have come out of the DVD player or (whatever the box is) with a composite video cable and adapted to the s-video end on the projector ... this won't work and will give a black and white picture.

if you are using the s-video connection, ensure the pins have not been damaged in the process of installing it. The s-video has 4 tiny pins ... two on one side do the Luminence (black and white) part of the picture and the other pair do the Chrominence (colour) part of the picture. When the picture drops out and says 'searching for signal, it means it can't find a cable plugged into itself. The projector can do an auto-scan of the inputs by using inductance to find out which input has a cable attached to it - even if there is no picture playing.

If you are using the DVI-D cable, your image quality may need to be set to suit your picture format being sent ... (ie. 1080i, 720p, 576p, 576i, 480p, 480i.)

and also check that the video mode (NTSC/PAL/SECAM) is correct. If you have a PAL system (which are discs and videos from the UK and most of Europe and Australia) then NTSC discs will show up as black and white. read the back of the DVD case to see if it's PAL or NTSC
