Mend Volkswagen 2003 1.8 Passat Engine

where is the thermostat on a 2003 1.8 passat stationwagon?

After a few minutes of driving my car, it turns of. When I turn it back on, the EPC light is on and the motor sounds forced liked accelerated. The VW dealer told me it may be the thermostat. Where is the thermostat in this car?

the thermostat would on top of the engine with three ot for wires coming from it so check all hoses on the cooling system
