how do i reduce the emmisions on my passat Tdi ?

emmisions on my VW passat Tdi 1.9 are almost twice that allowed. the year is 2000 and it has 100,000 miles on the engine is there any way to reduce the emmisions

change the engine oil & filter and air filter. Have you had the injectors checked or replaced recently? and take the car for a jolly good run before its MOT.
