Mend LDV Pilot 1900 Diesel Engine Fuel Filter

How can i fix my ldv pilot 1900 disel?

i have a ldv 1900cc diesel it starts fine but whilst driving the engine cuts out or slows down and smokes a lot then it picks up again i have changed the fuel filter but its still the same

once had a similar problem, cause was piece of plastic ,(actually a piece of crisp packet), in fuel tank and it kept blocking outlet pipe.
