How do i stop my selecter switch from continuous motion?

My indesit m93uk selecter switch does not stop on the set programme, it just clicks around once every second. if you disconnect and then reconnect the switch it functions properly for one complete wash and then reverts back. Is the selecter u/s or is there another hidden problem?
