My DVD drive a Mashita SR8587 keeps opening and closing even when empty!?

Hi have an intermittent problem with my Gateway PC running windows ME - The DVD drive a Mashita SR8587 keeps opening and closing even when empty! I have tried a lens cleaner but this does not seem to help ...

Any ideas
