Mend Whirlpool Working Start Button

How can I fix my whirlpool electric dryer?

My dryer stopped working, it does not turn on when I press the start button. It smelled a little like something was burning for a few weeks but it was a faint smell so I wasn't sure that I was really smelling anything. What can it be?
