How can I fix my Indesit IS60V Tumble dryer?

Please can anyone help? My tumble dryer will not start. Last time I pressed the start button on the front panel it was very reluctant to start, did though. However this time heard a phssst sound and smelt burning. Dryer did not trip out the electric or blow the fuse in the wall socket, socket will still run the hoover. But now dryer will not work. Is it the switch behind the button do you think? Or something more serious? Have taken top of dryer off but cannot see any burning or burnt wires. Could wires have shorted out somewhere else in dryer? How do I find this out? Any help much appreciated, even if it's only the number of a repair man...
