my phillips 21" wont turn off via remote?

when i try to turn it off via remote i lose sound but the tv stays on; it also renders me unable to change channel or do anything. THe only way to reset is to manually swith the tv off.

could be the sensor in the tv , that controlls the infa red light
from your remote has gone... if so needs a new panel.. can be bought cheap but has to be the correct one... ask at a tv repair shop.
