Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ700BA has 10-blink red light error. Any thoughts?

There is a lot on the internet about the Panasonic Viera blinking red light code problems plus lots of suggestions and much money spent in attemtps to fix it - but very few definitive fixes. I would like to know how to do a 'hard reset' to the factory settings using just the controls on the television (because the remote currently has no effect). Does anyone know what combination does that? Holding down the power button or the -vol button doesn't do it. I have already determined that the problem is not caused by the 'hidden thermistor' in one of the transformers on the power supply board. I'm wondering if it was simply triggered by (as reported on the internet) various HDMI connections - resulting in the set possibly locked in the 10-blink mode and needing the reset to restore factory settings. Any thoughts much appreciated . . . it's difficult typing this whilst wearing a strait-jacket. Thanks, Andy.
