my car wont start?

my car wont start, petrol does not seem to be getting into the carb however when i took the fuel line of the carb and then started the car the fuel came flooding out. when i put petrol into the carb manually it turns over but then cuts out due to lack of fuel. i cant get it to a garage because it wont start, please someone help.
