ROVER 75 CDT PROBLEM ?

WHEN I SWITCH OFF MY 75 DIESEL IT SOUNDS LIKE A FAN OR MOTOR IS GOING, IT IS NOT THE COOLING FAN AS IT HAPPENS WHEN THE ENGINE IS STILL COLD AND IT HAS HAD A GAS LIKE SMOG COMMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR ONCE ONLY,I DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND IT STOPPED. ANY IDEAS MANY MANY THANKS. jasonmadelin@yahoo.co.uk

the same fan works for the air con aswell, it will be that thats running the fan. switch of heater controls and see if it stops it happening
