Thanks Niko we found that not many people like repairing these machines and after reading your blog we decided to give www.agsrefrigeration.co.uk a call they were great they came out and replaced faulty fan motor on the spot. Brilliant

had the same problem and numerous companies and engineers who quoated that it was the compressor, fan or timer which mine hasnt got mine has a pcb when a friend gave me the number of an engineer who use to work directly for the manufacturer to be quick it was a faulty fan running intermittently which he replaced that was over six months ago no problem since. I unplugged the fridge for anout 1 hour - no problem the cold air starting blowing again. Don't panic try this first.

I have this same piece of sh*t refrigerator. After 3 service calls (one costing as much as $375 last summer), the thing still does not work properly. MOreover, I can't seem to actually find the serial # as it is listed on my refrigerator GTTS12BBPARWW anywhere - a few very close with a "B" instead of an "A", makes me wonder if this is the real deal or not? I could've bought an new refrigerator for the price of repairs. The real sh*t kicker? It just sh*t the bed again!!

So we had a similar problem with a brand new fridge. What was happening is that the defrost heater was not coming on. It should come on every 45 mins. You'll hear a popping like water on a hot stove top. This was causing a frost build up on the freezer and so the air was not circulating. No cooling. We were still under warranty luckily enough. Nice man from best buy sorted it all out! You will see this glow red at the bottom of your freezer (under the drawer) when it comes on.

Symptoms: fresh chamber just cool, freezer not freezing, no normal whirrr sound or air-blast inside, but a drop of frost in the center-top of the fresh compartment. It makes cold, but isn't moving it to food.

GE model # GTS12BBPARWW

Open freezer. Clear it out.
Two plastic buttons in front lip of freezer floor, pry out.
Two phillips screws, remove.
UN-plug the refrigerator !!!!
Slide freezer floor forward about 4 inches.
The icemaker wires will stop you. Reach back and lift their cover.
Slide freezer floor forward another 6 inches.
Fan is in center rear under floor level.
Plug in the refrigerator.
If there is no air-blow, gently feel fan.
(If fan is stalled, it won't cut your finger,
but if fan is up to speed and blowing, it will hurt!)
If it "wants to turn", but hits something:
- put your fingers behind both sides of fan blades,
- pry fan forward about 1/4"
- it should turn and blow
- if that makes it worse, try sliding fan rearward.
Slide freezer floor back, guiding the icemaker wires and cover
Re-screw and button-up.

I'm thinking the fan.

As you say, it gets cooler, or not, when you adjust the control, so the thermostat works and it is making cold freon.

However this model, like most frost-free, use an air fan to move cold air from an internal cold-coil to the frozen and fresh compartments. When this fan (and motor) quits, the coil is cold but that cold air only dribbles into the fresh compartment, and your icecream is soup.

If you have to ask, you probably don't want to replace the fan motor yourself. Anyway it looks like it is $75 just for the motor!!!! (Part Advantage price; you might check GE and Sears.) Add whatever for the cost of a service call, you are well on your way to a new small icebox.
