Mend Miles Head Gasket

Disappearing antifreeze, 2000 Taurus, 190,000 miles?

Head gasket has been checked and is OK, hoses have been replaced, coolant reservoir cap has been replaced, radiator and system has been flushed, water pump replaced, timing belt gasket replaced, thermostat replaced, etc. Coolant is disappearing, no puddles under car, no obvious leakage anywhere. I have to add about half a gallon of coolant every day.

Have the same problem. Appeared to be a small drip from the area of the water pump. Changed the water pump, still a drip and steam. A garage mechanic says it is a gasket for the timing chain. Changing that now. He said that is normal with the taurus.

Run on tick over and watch water level in header tank rev when really hot and see if the level rises and comes out of the overflow pipe as this might be why you don't see puddles. The problem could be a faulty thermostat not opening fully when engine hot. Who did all the replacements if a garage slap it back in their lap. If you then try opening the wate filler cap run the engine with the cap off and see if you have a surge of water coming out or through the overflow pipe if so it must something crappy blocking the system even though its been flushed, or just possible the filler cap is the wrong one pressure wise so not releasing the excess pressure instead pushing the water out of the overflow I've had this problem also boil over caused by air locks. to clear them run engine with cap off on tick over until you see no more bubbles mine was fine after doing that [the latter info from a mechanic]

Not sure about the 2000 Taurus if all is ok with what you have checked look at the manifold if it's a water heated inlet? maybe the gasket is allowing water into the engine (look for white steam from the exhaust) is it dry in the cab (heater matrix) Good luck. Mart.
