How can i fix my son's amplifier?

My son has a Crate G40CXL Celestion amplifier. It has gotten to where when he sets it up for distortion, sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. Can you tell me how I can repair this problem for him PLEASE? I am disabled, with no income, and can't afford a new amp. He is 13 years old, and is very good on the guitar. I don't want him to get discouraged with amp and not play.

If the amp works with a clean sound, he can go get a cheap distortion pedal like the Boss DS-1.

Look for bad solder connections on both circuit boards. Common places are the input jacks, the controls on the front panel, and any heavy or hot-running parts. You would not believe the number of amps that have only that problem causing all the trouble.
Also, before you start any repair, operate the anp with a constant signal from a radio, etc. Tap around with a wood dowel, plastic stick, or some other non-conductive tool. Chances are good that you can find the problem area like that.

i have a sony ta-fe370 amplifier it turns on fine but there is no sound on any of the outputs ie cd. tunner.totally no sound comeing from speakers

you might want to check the connections and make sure they are still soldered well. also sometimes they just get dusty as do most electronics. blast it with some dust off or compressed air. good luck

GET HIM TO CHECK FOR A CONSISTANT AND HIGH GAIN SETTING ON HIS GUITAR BECAUSE THAT INFLUENCES THE QUALITY OF THE DISTORTION LEVEL THROUGH THE AMP.
