How can I fix my e-mail Hotmail.com tool bar?

When opened to type e-mail, tool bar appears in full. When I attempt to use tool bar (Cut&Paste, Italics, Smileys, etc) they all fall apart. However, I can still send e-mails; I just cannot use tool bar. When I have sent an e-mail, and prepare to send another, the tool bar appears complete until I attempt to use.
I have already used AVG' protection system and three Trojan Horse infections were removed. However, these removal have not brought back my tool bar! Nor for that matter, made any discernible difference. I would add that I took over my 'goes with the job' computer on taking up a teaching job in China, so those infections may have been in place for some time. I installed the AVG system when I ran into above problem only five days ago.
