Open Thunderbird.

Instead of sellecting any inbox or folder, click the NAME of an account that show in BOLD text.

Look under the "Accounts" heading for the line starting with a gear icon. There is only one icon looking like that on that page.
The exact wording may differs from what I indicated as my version is not in English. The exact title is localised to the language you are using.

Click that line. A new dialog opens up in a new window.

You can now perform the instructions from my previous post.

In Thunderbird.
Set an account for you and one for your wife. (if not done already)
Click the first line of one of the accounts. It looks like nameATserver.com
Click on "See parameters for this account"
Make sure that the "Email address" for your account contain your address. Do the same for your wife account.
This is the address that will show in the From: field.

You might try two instances of Thunderbird - one for you and the other for your wife - i.e. Two completely separate accounts.

Sharing an e-mail account is rather like you both keeping your underwear in the same draw - it can lead to confusion.

Imagine that you're not man and wife - just two independent people sharing the same computer - would you want your house mate to be reading your Private Messages?
