Mend Water Washing Bad

water smells when draining?

my washing machine works fine, does not smell bad at all like some of the other moldy smell answers. when the machine drains into the laundry tub the water coming out smells like sewage. the clothes are clean and smell fine. the smell disappears immediately and i think it only does it when i use a cold water wash. any ideas?

Check your plumbing if connected without an air trap or direct to sink waste may be forcing stale air in drain pipes up into room, it will have never come into contact with washing or inside of machine so no smell on clothes.
