and when this happens the air conditioner blows hot air how do I fix this?

Since when was a Ford Mondeo a portable air conditioner?
No matter.

One would hazard a guess that the air conditioner THINKS it is cold, because of some fault.

How to fix? Well, the most obvious srategy is to do a Google search for - say - "Mondeo 2007 the frost light is always on" and see what comes up.
