My pfaff -1471 how I start the machine? first time?

I pug it in, I pres on the master switch, lights goes on, then I, plug the foot control lead into the machine socket, wen I, press the foot control pedal the machine do not work, then I, check for continuity on the lead and the variable resistencia is correct, then I, check for voltage on the machine and is not power. Can you tell me what is the problem? Or how can I. Troubleshoot the electrical system? Thanks
