how do you take the cover off a kenmore washer 70 series?

Undo 3 8mm bolt/screws at bottom of unit on the backside. Undo the 2 phillips screws on front below the contol panel. Control panel will flip up and over, and lock in place in back, upside down. You will see 2 large gold spring clips securing the back of the washer to the top of machine, remove these with a flat screw driver inserted towards the front of the clip, they will pop out. Now the ENTIRE back of the washer will tilt back. Undo 3 pin connector from control panel to top of washing machine, this is just for the lid switch. At this point, the ENTIRE white cabinet housing the washer will separate as a 3-sided unit, just lift towards front and up to disengage it from the base of the washer. Now you can freely get to the motor and pump. You can also operate the machine in this manner, be VERY careful of exposed wiring.

I know this as I just got done tearing mine apart :)
