Can I use my home dry dehumidifier without the dust filter?

I have a home dry dehumidifire and had it for years can I use it without the dust filter as I cannot get any

Use a cooker hood filter, cheap from eBay, cut to size with scissors.

The filter is to stop dust getting in and gumming it up - consider making your own brand filter.
