How to remove the plastic coverings by the power switch on Miele s7000 upri?

How to remove the plastic coverings by the power switch on Miele s7000 upright vacuum. I finally go the handle off after digging into the internet for a bit, but now that the handle is off, the plastic coverings seem to be a bear to remove. Any insight would be appreciated.

Before you dismantle the machine to reach the on/off switch consider cutting away the mains plug and a few inches of cable - constant tugging eventually breaks the conductors inside the cable and people's first thought is a broken switch.

I have repaired about 20 vacuum cleaners this way - I have never needed to replace a power switch.
