Mend Land Rover Freelander Help Side Door Removed

need help with freelander sidedoor lock?

my husband is trying to get our side door lock removed from our 2008 freelander rv because we went to unlock it and wouldn't.( i am glad we have doors up front). he is having a real hard time removing the lock because the door is shut and the screws are in the lock plate. i hope you can understand me. is there an easy way besides the door hinges?
