Ford Fiesta Door Handle Won't Open!?

Hi, i have recently brought a oldschool fiesta (1995) mainly because it was only £200 and i THOUGHT everything was orite on it seeing as it had full M.O.T untill 2009. The next day i go to open the front drivers side door and it wont open :( so i decided i would have a look and see if i could fix it. So far i have removed the inside panel on the door and removed the white plastic box covering the lock mechanism and i have managed to get the handle working but now the key wont unlock the door, can any1 that knows anything about door mechanisms help me please because i stupid climbing through the passenger side door just to let myself in to my own car!!! Thankyou to any1 that can help.

The Fiesta door handle actuator often shears so that the door will not open from the outside. A new handle can be fitted or the old handle can be drilled and pinned. In either event the door handle will have to be removed and replaced.

o.k thanks for the info i will give it a try we've been studying the door for a couple day trying to work out the mech but it almost seems like we're gonna have to take the passenger side door apart to examine the mech on the working door. Ill let you know how we get on, whenever we get round to doing it

maybe you have the lock opperating rod on the wrong way around or just jammed up take a torch and have a good look at the mech inside the door and see if it looks as if should fit the other way around if you study it for a while you start to see how it works this will help you a lot try operating the lock when the catch is closed you can do this by opening the door and closing the catch yourself use a screwdriver or similar as the catch is usually greased up. hope this helps
