JVC HR-S4700U, will not turn on, ?

When I get 6 inches from the VCR my circuit tester goes off, the VCR will not tur on. It has not been in use for years, yet when I put it away it worked.

Well it's not working now...

Likely a capacitor in the Power Supply - electrolytic capacitors are prone to fail with the passage of time - they can leak and split open.
