Mend Peugeot 307 Gear Linkage Cables

307 gear linkage cables?

just bought a 307 hdi, the gears select in reverse order eg 1st is were 5th is,2nd is were reverse is, 3rd and 4th is were it should be, 5th is were 1st should be and 2nd is were reverse should be. Last owner said he replaced cables. my question is are there more than one type of cable and how do I fix it as it very hard to drive as is.

Don't know that car but my daughter had a fault on her cable operated gears on her car that was an easy fix,look down on the gearbox and you may see a twin cable setup going to the selector (get someone to move the gears while you locate the working end) my bet is that he replaced the cable but crossed the ends,if you push the lever it will pull the selector,if you pull the lever it will pull the selector the opposite way,as he has replaced the cable the fitting is more than likely wrong.Good luck.
