Kelvinator dishwasher KD14SS program button blank?

Kelvinator KD14SS dishwasher display panel comes on, showing all the symbols for a few seconds, then just shows S & a Star symbol & 3 dashes - - - . does not go to any program selection. is there any button sequence that must be pushed to get program mode back on?
