Where does the spring control hook up on KitchenAide model K45S?

I need a diagram or manual that shows how the spring control goes on my KitchenAid model K45S mixer. Took it apart to see what was going on with speed control as it had lost the first seven speeds and went on at speed 8. Anyway the spring control was broken and I am not quite sure how it was hooked up looked at parts diagram but numbers and diagram did not show the connection, just parts in each service group. Need a diagram like if I was doing wiring. If anyone has a repair manual or can explain clearly or point me to a site, book, utube, etc.... Thanks,
