Mend Polo Window Switch Passenger

window switch?

polo year 1999 petrol i.4 spanish car .
passenger side. the window switch has three wires
that connect to the switch, One red one green and a black wire. the lugs at the back of the switch are numbered 1-2-3-4-5- could you tell me what numbers the wires connect to.y thanks tom

You can solve this yourself...

Ignore the switch to begin with and concentrate on the three wires.

One will be common - bringing +12V to the switch - One will be the signal to drive the window up and the other to drive it down. Pick a wire - touch it to either of the other two wires - if nothing happens then the third wire is the common 12V input. Then it's a simple matter to determine the up and the down wires. Mark them in some way as in C-U-D common up down.

Now the switch -presumably it has three positions - you need to draw a diagram of the connections in each of the three states - how does #1 connect to the other 4 terminals when in the relaxed state - when up is selected and when down.

The same for connector #2 - then three and four - you will not need to map five.

To do this mapping you will need a continuity tester - lamp and battery or a cheap multimeter (Amazon £3.49)

Using the diagram of the switch - connect the three wires to the three terminals that give you the up and down connections you need. Which terminal swaps back and forth to two other terminals as the switch is operated?
