Much will depend on your skills and application. But before the question can be answered you must - as a minimum - make an attempt.
It will either work or not work. Then - if it doesn't work you can attempt to diagnose the problem and decide if a repair is possible.
I think - by asking this question here - in the way you do - that there's a touch of laziness in your approach to the mouse.
Be aware that in the UK a mouse can be had from Amazon for £1.50 (US$2.4).
