cancelling a Gmail account?

Google+ is not GMail...
I use GMail, but I don't use Google+.

Those looks like SPAM-"social"posts. You probably get something similar on Facebook or Twiter.
Can you try removing the sender(s) of those posts from your friends/contact list? Look if you can black-list them.

I always use AdBlock on Firefox or Chrome, I don't see most ads.

I get seven almost every time I go into the account I have now got an outlook account which I will be using and let the google one go unless the posts stop. Have sent message to gmail through their feed back so they may act and stop them but doubt it.

What kind of "gmail posts" do you get?
On a new account, you'll get some welcome messages, but only the first day.

All my mail goes in my in box, all junk goes into the spam folder where it may stay up to 30 days unless I flush it before that. GMail have an extremely effecient spam filter and never misstaken any legitimate e-mail for spam.

If you want to cancel, you only need to not connect for about 60 days.
