Simpson Genesis 505 - Leak from main shaft seal ?

Have removed top/lid, agitator, drum top. Large nut secures drum centre plate to main shaft.
1) In which direction does nut undo?
2) How best to hold drum still and prevent gearbox damage when undoing nut?
3) Noticed leak greatly intensified when small inner holes around drum centre plate were cleared. Thought I was clearing debris as with outer holes. Was it perhaps part of the seal system?
4) Where to get the replacement seal from?

Many thanks to you at Lincoln Appliance NZ for your detailed answers. Hopefully the stainless steel drum will have limited corrosion. I'm resident in NSW Australia but I'm very much used to buying smaller parts from anywhere I can find them on the internet and I've now found a catalogue of parts online from a Simpson stockist in Oz. The parts bill in total should be about $A70 incl. bearings. Not too high a price for restoring a reliable, if elderly machine. Thanks again!

1. Anti clockwise.
2. Get someone to grip top of drum tight as they can.
3. No, seal is pressed in outer plastic bowl flush with surface.
4. Don't know because I don't know where in the world you live. This is the internet. Suggest you phone your local appliance retail store or service company.

One word of warning, when the bowl nut comes off you may still not be able to remove the bowl. Those older ones corrode & stick like glue to the steel gearbox shaft. Sometimes near impossible to dislodge them. If you do get it free & removed, the next step is remove all down below, motor, brake, pulley & clutch etc. Then lift outer bowl out. Tip it upside down & remove gearbox lower support plate. Then gearbox & top plate out. You will then have access to the 2 bearings which you should also change & the seal.
