Indesit 1196w Omega 1100 washing machine?

Our machine suddenly turned off mid-wash today and in the process knocked out the lights upstairs. I went to the fuse box and turned that switch; on everything else worked but the washing machine didn't. Fast forward a few hours later, I found some fuses to change the old one with. On about the third fuse, it worked again, but did the same thing as it did before - stopped mid spin and knocked out the upstairs lights. Now it isn't working again. What could be the problem as the fuses work, they have been tried in other appliances.
