Mend Hitachi AX-M68D Problem Cd Player

Problem with Hitachi CD Player?

Most CD played distort the sound and sometimes displays no CD and jumps a track or two. Other times it will play normally then suddenly start to distort.
Any ideas what the problem is.

The player is Hitachi AX-M68D.
The radio works perfectly
