Just replaced the battery on are old alarm.all was ok for about a hour untill the alarm died giving off a weird smell.I removed the cover and the power led came on.I have checked the fuses and the battery was hot to the touch.Ihave tested the battery with a m meter and have a reading of 13 volts.not sure where to go now with it, any ideas thanx
you should be getting 13.9v charging volts, sounds like the charging circuit is fried,
Can be fixed though,
check the series resistor, component 17 on the cct or burning of the tracks.
you want to have a reading of around 48 ohms.

Reversed leads?
Shot PSU.
Duff battery.
Time to check everything with a multimeter for correct outputs. Fuses for continuity not looking at them. Make sure the battery was connected correctly.
Is the battery smooth, no ripples or bulges on its surfaces?

you cant test a battery with a volt meter,if the battery is getting very hot after an hour, then it could be an internal short in battery,or an over volt in panel, more likely the battery, but the panel you have is a budget one (cheap)
